Collecting Rainwater

Having clean, accessible water is critical to human health, and a healthy environment. The lack of water poses a major threat to several sectors, including food security. Developing countries are most affected by water shortages and poor water quality. As a result, illnesses in the developing world are linked to inadequate water and sanitation.

Rainwater harvesting is collecting the run-off from a structure or other impervious surface in order to store it for later use. Rainwater collection systems are as simple as collecting rain in a barrel or as elaborate as harvesting rainwater into large cisterns to supply the bathing, cleaning, washing, and cooking needs of an entire household.

Amigos Unidos has been providing water tanks to families to collect rainwater. In Guapi, Colombia there isn’t a working water utility so water is scarce. Fortunately, it rains a lot there. Therefore, people collect water from their roofs and use the water tanks to store water. The rainwater isn’t perfectly clean, but the abundant rain keeps the water in fairly good condition and provides clean water.

Amigos Unidos is determined to provide water tanks to families in Columbia that are in need of collecting and storing rainwater for their daily use.
